Where do I even start with all the things I disliked about this book? Well to start, the main character, a male detective Adam Ryan, has been fabricated from a female mind and it is so obvious. I was reading and at one point I thought to myself “What man is like this? NO man is like this, did a woman write this?”, I flip to the book cover, “Yep, a woman wrote this.” It was very distracting to read from the mind of this romanticized character who would never exist and that is the first thing I want in a book, the ability to dive in and forget it is fiction.
The next thing was the ending was TERRIBLE. I don’t need a happy ending, but i do need answers to my questions. That much I ask. This book left so many open questions and I read the last sentence and was so shocked at how anticlimactic it was. It COULD have easily had a clever ending, at least give me a Shutter Island where I don’t know the answer but I can guess between one or two scenarios!
Last, it was predictable. It was a murder mystery and I knew halfway through who did it, or at least who helped do it. I wanted to be surprised and instead it was a half ass attempt to tie everything together and it did not work.
So if you were considering spending any money on this book, please god don’t. It was a huge disappointment and anyone who has read a decent mystery (i.e. Agatha Christie, Stieg Larsson, etc.) I guarantee you will agree with me.
